While we wait for March Madness to start, we will focus a bit on the NBA and NHL… Maybe even some baseball!

Lets recap some of our college basketball picks from over the weekend and get ready for March Madness to begin now that brackets are officially out. Starting in some Friday action where we saw Michigan State defeat Oregon 74-64, hitting our under 143 selection on the game. Michigan State controlled the first half in this one, taking a 10 point lead to halftime and held off any runs Oregon attempted in the second half to secure the victory. After that, Alabama St defeated Grambling St 64-62, just barely missing our Alabama St -2.5 selection on the game. Alabama St had to rally in the second half after trailing at halftime, but unfortunately came up just short of covering the spread for us. 

On Saturday we saw Bryant easily defeat Maine 77-59 and cover our Bryant -6.5 pick on the game. Bryant dominated the paint throughout this one, grabbing 20 more rebounds than Maine did on their way to winning the America East conference tournament. Next up, Wisconsin got the upset win over Michigan State 77-74, narrowly missing our under 144.5 selection on the game. Wisconsin guard John Tonje was unstoppable in the game, scoring 32 points in the win. He is certainly a name to remember when filling out your bracket. After that, Memphis squeaked out a victory over Tulane 78-77, hitting our Tulane +8.5 selection on the game. Memphis had to withstand a late comeback attempt from Tulane after leading by 7 at half. It came down to making free throws in the end and Memphis did just enough.  Memphis center Dain Dainja put up an impressive 23 points and 11 rebounds in the game. 

On Sunday, we saw Florida dominate most of the game and pick up another impressive victory over Tennessee 86-77, hitting our Florida -5 pick on the game. Florida won the SEC tournament and secured themselves a 1 seed in March Madness in the process. They seem to be one of the favorites to win it all now, and rightfully so, they are one of the most complete teams in the entire field. Next, Yale defeated Cornell 90-84 just barely missing our Cornell +5.5 pick on the game. Yale gets another trip to the tournament with the win and have now won the Ivy conference tournament for a 3rd time in 4 years.

NBA: Indiana vs. Minnesota - 8:00pm ET

NHL: LA Kings vs. Minnesota Wild - 8:00pm ET

Los Angeles to win

Analysis:

The LA Kings are having an outstanding season, leading the league in fewest shots allowed with a remarkable +150 shot differential, while the Minnesota Wild are struggling significantly, ranked 27th in shots against and holding a -155 shot differential, the worst among all winning teams. This disparity highlights Minnesota's defensive weaknesses, as they also rank 27th in scoring chances at a negative 5.2%, in contrast to the Kings' 10th place ranking with a positive 2.9% margin. Additionally, LA has a solid face-off win percentage, sitting 15th, whereas the Wild are at a low 28th, indicating further issues with puck possession. In terms of expected goal differential (xGD), the Kings excel at second place, showing their effectiveness on both ends of the ice, while Minnesota ranks 21st, suggesting their goal-scoring efforts aren't yielding strong results. The Kings have already defeated the Wild twice this season, outshooting them 62-47 in those games, which underscores LA's offensive pressure. To make matters worse for Minnesota, they are missing two key players from their lineup, further complicating their ability to compete effectively against a well-rounded team like the Kings. Overall, the statistics and player circumstances point to a significant advantage for Los Angeles in their upcoming matchup against Minnesota. NCAAB: Memphis vs. Sacramento - 10:00pm ET

Analysis:

The Kings should consider taking a cautious approach with DeMontis Sabonis, especially after he struggled to get through a half before re-injuring his hamstring. Sacramento has hit a rough patch, losing three consecutive games by significant margins of 29, 26, and 17 points, and they've dropped five of their last six overall. Their defensive performance has been abysmal during this stretch, allowing 122, 130, and 133 points in those games, indicating a severe lack of effort or strategy on that end of the floor. In contrast, the Grizzlies are finding their rhythm again, having scored over 120 points in four straight games and eight out of their last 12, averaging an impressive 122.3 points per game during this stretch. While both teams have struggled to cover the spread recently, I have confidence in the Grizzlies' ability to capitalize on the Kings' current turmoil. Given Sacramento's defensive woes and ongoing injury concerns, it seems likely that Memphis could exploit these weaknesses and secure a solid victory, especially against a reeling opponent. NCAAB: San Antonio vs. LA Lakers - 10:30pm ET

Lakers -8.5

Analysis:

The Spurs are currently in disarray, allowing an alarming average of 128.2 points per game over their last ten outings. Opponents have been exceptionally effective against them, shooting 40% from three-point range and 52% from the field. Their struggles are reflected in their recent record, going just 4-9 against the spread (ATS) in their last 13 games and a dismal 2-10 ATS on the road, with nine of those losses coming by significant margins. In stark contrast, the Lakers have found their groove, covering the spread in six consecutive home games and showing strong performance in back-to-back situations with a 6-3 ATS record. Against Western Conference teams, the Lakers boast a solid 26-15-1 ATS record, and they have managed to perform well even when facing a rest disadvantage, going 8-4 ATS in those scenarios. Recently, the Lakers rested several key players, which could result in a refreshed lineup ready to take on the struggling Spurs. Historically, when they've had to step up in the absence of star players like Luka Doncic and LeBron James, they have risen to the occasion.
