Betting Memphis, OKC, Dayton, and more—why we’re zigging while others zag.

Sports Corner Daily’s Results from 12/16/2024

Winners - 2

Losers - 1

Sports Corner Daily had a solid overall night going 2-1. In the NBA last night the Clippers continued their trend of destroying bad teams. They jumped out to a huge lead in the first quarter and the lead spiked to 34 at half time, easily hitting our -8 selection. The Clippers ended up winning 144-107. James Harden scored 41 points in the win. Sports Corner Daily’s only loss last night was the Bulls and Raptors game. The Bulls won the game 122-121 which was just above our under 238.5 pick. RJ Barrett led all scorers with 32 points on the night.

In the NFL last night, the Vikings put a beat down on the Bears, winning 30-12. The Bears offense couldn't get anything going against the Vikings all night and didn't score a touchdown until late in the 4th quarter. The Vikings defense continues to be one of the best in the NFL as they improve to 12-2 on the season and have a chance to catch the Lions for first place in their division.

Tonight, we have 5 live bets in play, but Sports Corner Daily is going against public sentiment on 3 of those plays. If you typically follow public betting trends, you may want to avoid those three bets, as they may not align with your usual strategy.

Minnesota -6.5 - Win

L.A. Clippers -8- Win

Bulls @ Raptors - Under 238.5- Lost

Tonight's LIVE Bets:

NCAAF: Memphis Tigers @ West Virginia Mountaineers

Memphis -4.5

Analysis:

The West Virginia Mountaineers have lost the most players to the transfer portal following the firing of head coach Neal Brown. In contrast, the Memphis Tigers boast a strong offense that averages 35.2 points per game, which will challenge West Virginia's struggling defense that allows 31.1 points. Senior QB Seth Henigan and running back Mario Anderson form a formidable offensive pair. Memphis is motivated to win against a Power-5 team and is currently on a 3-0 streak in bowl games. The public also likes the Tigers to cover, coming in strong at 69% in favor of them covering.

NBA: Milwaukee Bucks @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City -5

Analysis:

The Thunder are not at the same level as they were last year, but they are improving, scoring 111 or more points in six consecutive games. In contrast, the Bucks have been average defensively and struggle against teams outside their division, with a 6-12 ATS record in those matchups. The Bucks are also 5-5 in their last ten games and 7-10 over their last 17. Oklahoma City, however, is performing well, going 4-0 ATS against Eastern Conference teams and 13-7 ATS outside their division, having covered 7 of their last 9 games. They have also covered 3 of their last 4 as favorites by 5-10 points. 56% of the public also feels the Thunder will cover in this evenings match up.

NCAAB: Florida Gators @ NC Tarheels

North Carolina +3.5

Analysis:

We’re taking North Carolina (UNC) despite Florida's strong performance, which has come against a relatively easy schedule (ranked 161st by KenPom). Meanwhile, UNC has faced one of the toughest schedules but is just 1-4 against top 30 teams. We believe this one will be a nail biter, similar to their recent narrow losses to Kansas and Michigan State. We believe its wise to back UNC at +3.5 or higher. The public is on the gators to cover the spread coming in at 62% in favor of Florida to cover.  If you’re not comfortable going against the public you may want to sit this one out.

NCAAB: UNLV @ Dayton

Dayton -11

Analysis:

UNLV has struggled to find its form from last season following the departures of the Boone brothers and versatile guard Luis Rodriguez, impacting their versatility and consistency. The team's offense has been hindered by 6-11 juco player Bear Cherry, who has scored in single digits in his last four games, placing too much pressure on sophomore guard Dedan Thomas to generate offense. The Runnin' Rebels have underperformed, losing five straight games and covering only one of their last eight spreads. In contrast, the Dayton Flyers are 8-2 against the spread and recently defeated 6th-ranked Marquette 71-63 after overcoming a 13-point deficit. Given these factors, the recommendation is to bet on Dayton. The public is also against us here with 56% of them putting their money on UNLV to cover.

NHL: New Jersey Devils @ St Louis Blues

Under 5.5

Analysis:

Since Jim Montgomery took over as head coach in late November, the Blues have shown strong defensive performance. St. Louis ranks well in various defensive metrics, and tonight they are likely to start goalie Jordan Binnington, who previously shut out the Devils 3-0 in his first game under Montgomery. However, Binnington will face a challenge against New Jersey's Jacob Markstrom, who has an impressive 1.39 GAA and .934 save percentage in December. The recommendation is to bet on the Under for the Devils-Blues game. We don’t often do this but we are riding against the Public for another play today. This would be 3 of our 5 plays on the night where we are against the public sentiment which is coming in heavy at 79% in favor of the over.
